The battle dragged on, but as the first hints of dawn streaked the sky, Fenrir's forces began to retreat. Cassian stood in the clearing, his chest heaving as blood dripped from a gash on his shoulder. His wolf form, battered and bruised, reflected the toll of the fight. Nathan approached cautiously, his own injuries visible. "They're pulling back," he said, his voice hoarse. "But this wasn't just an attack. Fenrir was testing us."

Cassian shifted back into his human form, wincing as he rolled his shoulder. "And now he knows how far he can push."noveldrama

"Next time, he won't hold back," Nathan said grimly.

Cassian's jaw tightened as he surveyed the forest around them, littered with the remnants of the night's battle. The cost had been high-too high-but there was no time to dwell on it. Fenrir would come again, and the next strike would be worse. Aurora sat in the central hall, her hands trembling as she tried to keep busy. Every sound from outside made her heart race, every minute that passed without news felt like an eternity.

Lila sat across from her, her expression calm but watchful. "He'll come back," she said softly, her voice steady.

Aurora looked up, her eyes filled with worry. "What if he doesn't?"

Lila's gaze didn't waver. "Cassian isn't the type to give up. If he's still breathing, he'll come back."

Before Aurora could respond, the door creaked open, and Cassian stepped inside, his presence filling the room. Relief flooded Aurora as she rushed to him, her hands hovering over his bloodied arm. "You're hurt," she said, her voice trembling.

"It's nothing," he replied, his tone steady despite the exhaustion in his eyes. "Fenrir's forces are retreating. For now."

Lila approached, her expression softening. "And what happens when they come back?"

Cassian's gaze hardened. "We'll be ready."
