Aurora nodded as Cassian's hand lingered on her shoulder, the warmth of his touch grounding her. In that moment, the burdens of her grief, her fear, and her uncertainty seemed to blur, eclipsed by the steady strength of the man before her. "Come with me," Cassian said softly.
She hesitated, her eyes searching his. "Where?"
"Somewhere we can breathe," he said simply, his voice low and soothing.
Aurora found herself nodding, drawn by the quiet promise in his words. Without another word, Cassian led her through the camp and into the surrounding forest, their steps silent as the trees closed in around them.
The clearing they reached was bathed in silver moonlight. The soft glow illuminated the tall grasses and scattered wildflowers that danced in the gentle breeze. Aurora stopped at the edge, her breath catching at the unexpected beauty. "I didn't know this was here," she murmured.
Cassian stepped closer, his presence steady and grounding. "It's one of my favorite places. A reminder that even in the chaos, there's still peace to be found."
Aurora turned to him, her chest tightening at the vulnerability in his voice. "Do you feel like that now? That everything's chaos?"
His lips twitched in a faint, wry smile. "I think we both do."
Aurora nodded, dropping her gaze as she spoke. "It feels like I'm carrying so much. Too much. And I'm scared that if I let any of it go, I won't know who I am anymore."
Cassian reached out, his hand brushing lightly against hers. "You don't have to carry it all, Aurora. Not alone."noveldrama
Her breath hitched at the softness in his tone. She lifted her gaze to meet his, her voice barely a whisper. "Neither do you."
The words hung between them, the space narrowing as Cassian moved closer. His hand slid gently to her cheek, his thumb brushing her skin with a tenderness that sent a shiver down her spine. "Aurora," he murmured, her name a plea and a promise.
She closed the distance between them, her lips brushing his in a tentative kiss. Cassian stilled for a moment before responding, his hand slipping to the nape of her neck as the kiss deepened.
His touch was firm yet gentle, his movements unhurried as if savoring every moment. Aurora's hands found their way to his chest, her fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt as she leaned into him. Cassian broke the kiss, his forehead resting against hers as he caught his breath. "Are you sure?" he asked, his voice rough with restraint.
Aurora met his gaze, her answer clear in the way she pulled him closer. "Yes."
The soft rustle of grass surrounded them as they sank to the ground, the cool earth beneath them contrasting with the heat that built between their bodies. Cassian's hands moved to her waist, his fingers tracing the curve of her hips as he kissed her again, slower this time but no less intense.
Aurora's fingers tugged at the hem of his shirt, and he obliged, pulling it over his head and discarding it to the side. Her hands splayed across his chest, her touch tentative at first but growing bolder as she traced the hard planes of muscle beneath her fingertips. Cassian's lips traveled to her jaw, then down to her neck, leaving a trail of warmth that made her shiver. His hands slid beneath her shirt, his touch reverent as he explored the smooth skin of her back. Aurora gasped softly, the sound spurring him on as he lifted her shirt over her head and cast it aside.
"You're beautiful," he murmured, his voice filled with awe as he looked at her.
Aurora's cheeks flushed, but the way he gazed at her made her feel like she was the only thing that mattered. She reached for him, pulling him back into another kiss as their bodies pressed closer.
Cassian's hands roamed her sides, his touch careful and deliberate, as though he was memorizing every curve. Aurora arched into him, her breaths coming faster as the barriers between them fell away.
They moved together with a quiet urgency, their touches growing bolder as they shed the layers of clothing that remained. The warmth of his skin against hers sent a rush of heat through her, and she let herself get lost in the sensations-the way his hands gripped her thighs, the way his lips claimed hers with a mix of hunger and tenderness.
Cassian paused, his forehead resting against hers as he whispered, "Tell me if I hurt you."
"You won't," Aurora replied, her voice trembling but certain.
His movements were slow and deliberate, his touch never wavering as he guided her into a rhythm that left her breathless. Aurora's hands gripped his shoulders, her nails digging into his skin as a soft moan escaped her lips.
Cassian's breathing grew heavier, his control slipping as he lost himself in her. Aurora clung to him, her heart pounding as the world around them seemed to dissolve into nothing but the two of them.
When they finally stilled, their breaths mingling in the cool night air, Aurora felt a sense of peace she hadn't known in months. Cassian's arms tightened around her, his lips pressing softly against her temple. "You're safe," he murmured. "I won't let anything happen to you."
Aurora buried her face in his chest, her tears silent as she let the moment wrap around her like a shield. For the first time in weeks, she felt like she could breathe.
As dawn broke, the clearing was quiet once more. Cassian lay beside Aurora, his arm draped protectively over her as they watched the first rays of sunlight filter through the trees.
"Last night..." Aurora began, her voice barely above a whisper.
Cassian turned to her, his expression soft. "Last night was real."
Aurora smiled faintly, her fingers tracing idle patterns on his chest. "Thank you."
"For what?"
"For staying," she said simply. "For not letting me push you away."
