Chapter 45
Chapter

Seeing the displeased look on Audrey's face, Eliza was fully satisfied. 'So, Audrey isn't as unaffected as she seems, she thought.
With a gentle smile, Eliza said sweetly, "I never knew Dominic could cook! I wonder if he's any good. Audrey, would you help me judge his cooking?" Eliza knew perfectly well that Dominic had never once cooked for Audrey. On the contrary, it was Audrey who had repeatedly prepared meals for him.
Asking Audrey to "judge the cooking" was just a way to rub it in.
Emily couldn't help but roll her eyes and muttered, "This Eliza really has no shame, snatching Audrey's fiancé and then showing off shamelessly. Who does she think she's fooling?"
Emily was about to step in, but Audrey spoke first, her tone indifferent. "Since it's for you, why don't you enjoy it on your own? I'll just grab something from the cafeteria."
With that, Audrey caught a glimpse of a small bear sticker on the lunchbox in Eliza's hands. And a mocking smile flickered on her face.noveldrama
Eliza mistook her expression as feigned indifference and felt even more triumphant, ready to say more.
Just then, the receptionist walked in, her heels clicking across the floor. "Ms. Rhodes, there's a guy at the front desk who says he's your husband, and he's here to bring you lunch."
Eliza's face froze. Audrey, however, thought the receptionist was just teasing and asked, "Are you sure it's my husband? What does he look like?" Alistair's office was on the other side of town. It seemed unlikely he'd come all this way just to bring her lunch, especially without her even asking.
The receptionist's eyes sparkled. "He's tall, with long legs, and drop-dead gorgeous! He's way better looking than any celebrity, like he just stepped out of a comic book! Honestly, I was blushing just looking at him." "And he's got multiple lunchboxes with him! Ms. Rhodes, you've really hit the jackpot!" the receptionist added.
As someone who saw her fair share of handsome men at the front desk, she'd never met anyone who had this kind of effect. Just one look made life seem that much sweeter.
"Could he really be here..." Audrey murmured, feeling a warmth bloom in her chest. She didn't stop to think any further and headed for the door quickly.
Eliza bit her lip, scowling as she shot a glare at the receptionist. "Suck-up."
'Audrey's husband is just some kept man, so there's no way he is as amazing as they are making him sound, Eliza muttered.
But the receptionist, who had never liked Eliza's bossy attitude, shot back, "Ms. Harper, if you don't believe me, why don't you go check yourself? I don't waste time sucking up!" With that, the receptionist turned and headed back to her desk before Eliza could react.
Eliza stomped her foot angrily and hurried out, determined to see how handsome Audrey's husband was.
After crossing the hallway, passing the break room, and walking down a long corridor, Audrey finally reached the lobby near the elevators. And she spotted Alistair waiting for her.
Alistair was wearing a deep blue shirt and light gray dress pants that fit his long legs perfectly. His sharp features, high-bridged nose, and elegant profile gave him a distinguished look.
Just standing there, Alistair exuded a cold, imposing presence, his aura strikingly different from anyone else's. His slightly furrowed brow carried a hint of authority that kept people at a respectful distance. His stature, his commanding air! It was easy to mistake him for some high-society gentleman.
Audrey's steps slowed as she approached, her eyes glued to him unconsciously. Today, Alistair looked almost too good to be real.
Sensing her gaze, Alistair looked up in her direction. The moment he saw her, his expression softened, and he smiled warmly.
The warmth of that smile melted away his previous aloofness, closing the distance between them.
"Audrey." His voice was deep and smooth, like a lover's intimate whisper.
Thump, thump, thump. Audrey could hear the wild thudding of her own heart. She tried to keep her cool and gave him a faint smile. "What brings

you here?"
Alistair's smile remained gentle as he explained, "You skipped breakfast this morning, and I was worried you'd be too busy to eat. So, I thought I'd bring you lunch." Looking at the thoughtful man standing before her, Audrey felt something inside her shift and started to crumble.
Audrey thought, 'So, this is what married life is like? Having someone who cares if I've eaten, someone willing to go out of their way just to bring me a meal. 'Even if his reasons for marrying me aren't entirely pure, does that really matter?'
What do you think?
