Chapter 12
Chapter 12:
He knew very well his true personality behind that mask!
Thinking about the documents that were coffee-stained, he headed to his study room to take them to the company. He had to make sure that a new copy was printed for him.
As soon as he entered the study, he knew intuitively that someone had been here.
Other than Coral and Abbott, who had been in his studio, there shouldn’t have been anyone else who was here. Even Helen had never been here.
Who was this intruder?
Did that woman sneak into his study?
He walked over to his desk and saw a stack of handwritten documents on the table. It looked like a translated text. He picked it up and studied the words carefully. The words were very neat and elegant. With a frown, he thought about the possibility that the woman had written it.
Did she know how to read the language Country A used?

Matthew found it hard to believe.
As he put the papers back on the desk and set out to find this woman to find out what had happened, a brief note fell out of the document. There was a brief paragraph in it: I am sorry for intruding into your study space without your permission. The reason your papers got wet was because of my carelessness. Therefore, I have tried, to the best of my ability, to restore your papers. Although I am not a master in the language of Country A, I managed to translate it into Chinese so that you can read the words. Take this as my compensation for wetting your documents.
Dolores wrote it.
Matthew gripped the memo tightly and reread its contents a few more times. This memo was also handwritten. His anger at her for selfishly intruding into his study had dissipated somewhat.
He stared at the neat words and was suddenly curious about this woman.
Unexpectedly, she knew this rare language.
Matthew placed the memo on the table and picked up the documents. He was about to leave for the company.
When Dolores woke up, it was already noon. Coral had prepared some dishes for her. She was a little ashamed of herself for waking up so late.
Coral smiled softly, “It’s always empty here. The Young Master is never one to sleep past the wee hours of the morning. Since you moved in here, this place feels livelier.”
Dolores replied with a smile as well, “Didn’t Miss White often come here in the past?”
Coral’s features froze slightly as she pondered, “Was she jealous of Miss White?”.
Dolores intended nothing more than a simple question, but having brought up the subject, she instantly felt regret.
“She was not always here. Young Master was always cold to her…” Coral was also confused by the change shown by Matthew. Why did his attitude toward her suddenly change for the better after a single business trip?
He never felt anything for Helen in all those years, so what led him to fall in love with her in just a few days?
Coral couldn’t come to any conclusions about it.
Dolores remembered a saying about how difficult it was to guess a woman’s thoughts. She thought that applied to some men as well.
This included someone like Matthew.
Since she didn’t get that job, Dolores decided not to keep wasting her life this way. She had to have a steady job first. She wouldn’t be able to get her mother’s things back for now.
She didn’t have much savings left. Although she didn’t need to spend much while she was here, her mother needed money to survive.
After finishing her meal, she left the house.
He was a person with no real academic qualifications, so naturally it was difficult for him to find a good job.
After facing rejection after rejection, Dolores deduced that for the time being she could only look for a low-paying job.
There was an upscale restaurant that was hiring some waiters and waitresses.
It was a job that did not require any academic qualifications.
As long as she was quick and reactive, she could get by in this job. She had to make sure she at least earned some money, so she headed to the restaurant for an interview.
Although Dolores had not finished her college studies, she was still a person who had gone to college. She had the sensible and logical skills necessary to excel in such a job. She was also very resourceful.
The restaurant manager decided to hire her. She could start work tomorrow.
At least she now had a secure job. Dolores felt much more relieved than before. She left the restaurant and took a walk along the road.
Under the twilight sky, the last rays of sunlight tinged the sky a blinding orange and red. The remaining lights of the sun cast a glow over the streets.
Dolores’ shadow stretched infinitely under the sun’s glare.
She was alone, walking the streets. She felt somewhat lonely.
“Dolores.”
Dolores turned her head to look for the source of that voice. She saw Sampson strutting toward her from across the street.
“I think I’m seeing things.” Sampson smiled.
“Doctor Herbert.” Dolores was astonished to meet him again, “Why is he still in the field?”
He hesitated as he lightly examined Dolores, “I’m here for more work.”
Dolores remembered a scene from the other day at the hospital. The dean of the hospital had been tempting Sampson to work for him, so she could fully understand his appearance here.
“That hospital must have given him a very rewarding package, mustn’t it?” said Dolores enviously.
Dolores had to take care of her mother, and this grueling process had kept her from graduating from college. She was finding it very difficult to get a decent job at the moment.
Sampson revealed a warm smile, “Indeed, it’s not so bad.”
If it weren’t for her, who had decided not to return to her country, she wouldn’t have stayed no matter how good the pay was.
There were too many people and things in this country that she would rather forget.
Dolores looked up at the vast sky. It was slowly getting dark. She realized that she had been here for two whole months already.
At that moment, uncertainty and helplessness assailed her.
It was not easy to get back what belonged to her. She had come to that realization after paying a heavy price.
Sampson could understand her concern. He reached out and brushed some of her messy locks of hair behind her ear, “You can tell me if you have any complications at the moment.”
Dolores shook her head as she remembered those days when he had helped her so much.
They had spent some time together, even though those days were short, he could still guess what she was thinking. She wanted to carry her burdens by herself without depending on anyone.
“You’re too stubborn.”
Indeed, she was too hard-headed and that made him feel sorry for her.
Dolores pursed her lips slightly at hearing that. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to seek help. She just feared that she would not be able to reciprocate the kindness bestowed upon her.
After all, she was conscientiously poor.
“It’s getting dark now, aren’t you going home, Doctor Herbert?” asked Dolores.
Dolores had addressed him as Doctor Herbert since they had known each other.
“Lola.” Sampson looked at her intently. “Can you stop calling me Doctor Herbert from now on?”
She continued to look at him earnestly, “Call me by my name or you can call me brother. We’ve known each other for a long time and are friends as brother and sister.” ‘Doctor Herbert’ really sounded like we were strangers, what do you think?”
Dolores thought about his words. He was older than her, and he always looked after her like a real big brother. “Should I call you brother then?”
“Yes.” Sampson took the opportunity and hugged her. He smiled meekly, “Call me brother.”noveldrama
“Matthew, isn’t that Miss Flores?”
Matthew, who was driving, paid no attention to passersby. After Helen reminded him, he shifted his gaze in this direction ….
