Chapter 21
Chapter 21:.
When Dolores arrived at the hospital, Sampson was sitting in the hallway outside the patient’s room with his hands on each knee. He was slightly leaning forward and deep in thought. He didn’t even notice when Dolores came to his side.
“What are you thinking about?”
Sampson lifted his head and held back his emotions at the sight of Dolores. He looked toward the patient’s room and said, “Your mother’s emotions are not stable.”
Dolores had mentally prepared herself, “It’s okay, you can go back to rest. I’ll take care of her.”
Sampson looked at her abdomen and said, “You need rest too.”
“Rest assured, I’ll take good care of myself.” Dolores smiled reassuringly at him.
Sampson was silent for a moment and then nodded, “Call me if you need anything.”
Dolores acknowledged and Sampson got up to leave. Dolores looked at his back and pursed her lips. Although she had known him for quite some time, she didn’t know much about his family background and family members.

She knew practically nothing about it.
It worried her that something was deep in his thoughts.
At that moment, Sampson stopped, turned and looked at Dolores, “I heard something about those women. Someone paid them to say those things and to write your door down.”
Dolores nodded. “Good. Sampson, you can also talk to me if something is bothering you.” Dolores looked at him.
Sampson smiled, “I’m fine.”
Dolores didn’t bother him. Everyone has something they don’t want to share with others.
She didn’t go into the room immediately after Sampson left. She thought about who would pay those neighbors to do those things – Annabelle?
Beulah? But they didn’t know she was pregnant. Then…
Crash!
Suddenly, what sounded like something crashing to the floor came from the patient’s room. Dolores was startled and quickly pushed open the door and saw the broken glass at Jessica’s feet. She reached over to pick up the shards of glass, “Mom, do you want a drink, sit down first and I’ll pour you some water after I clean up…”
Before she could finish, Jessica grabbed her wrist and seemed to be in a trance, “Lola.”
Dolores looked at her mother, “Yes?”.
Jessica was very conflicted and gripped Dolores’s hand tighter and tighter, “Can you terminate your pregnancy?”
This has just begun What if the baby was born without a father? What would the others think of them if the baby was blonde with blue eyes? Dolores knew Jessica was traumatized but didn’t expect her to bring up the past.
“Mom…”
Jessica released her and, as if her soul had left her body, “You’re reluctant. I knew you’d be reluctant.”
She sat up at the head of the bed and lay back in a daze, “Jeremy’s gone, he’s gone…”
Dolores was stunned and incredulous, what had happened to him? Dolores quickly called the doctor but Jessica was uncooperative and even wanted to hurt herself. Consequently, the doctor gave her an injection to calm her down. “The initial prognosis is that the patient has some mental illness.” Said the doctor after performing some checks.
Dolores’ body began to sway and she had to stabilize herself by holding on to a cabinet behind her. “How did it get so bad?”.
“Has your mother suffered any emotional trauma? It can’t be the first time it’s happened to her. She must have repressed her tensions for too long and now they have erupted, resulting in this state.”
Dolores’ lips twitched. Since Randolph had sent her mother abroad, she had never smiled. She was sure she was emotionally wounded. She had postnatal depression when her brother was born, and the depression worsened after her younger brother’s death. Dolores’ pregnancy was also emotionally stressful for her and must have been the straw that broke the camel’s back. It was the limit of her emotional tolerance. Any additional stress would cause her to lose control of herself.
“What’s the treatment?” Dolores was incoherent and could only persevere.
The doctor sighed, “It’s not easy to treat mental illness. Don’t you know Dr. Herbert very well? He’s a psychiatrist. He should be able to help you.” Dolores thought about Sampson’s expression and wondered if he knew something but didn’t want to tell her.
“I suggest you move your mother to a psychiatric facility.” Dolores nodded her head.
After sending the doctor away, Dolores squatted down and looked at the self-inflicted scratches on Jessica’s face. Her heart ached so much that she couldn’t breathe. The scene where she lost control and hurt herself replayed in her mind.
That same day, Jessica was transferred to a psychiatric facility. Because the patient was emotionally unstable and had the potential to cause harm to herself and others, family members could only visit her during regulated visiting hours. It was as if part of the treatment consisted of isolating the patient from the outside world.
Dolores packed up some of her and Jessica’s belongings, then terminated the lease. Since she still had some things in the apartment, the landlord had not returned her rental deposit.
Jessica’s hospital bills were being paid by Sampson and she felt increasingly indebted to him.
Just as she was deep in thought, the car pulled up to the villa. She paid the driver and got out of the car with her bags. She stood outside the villa for a moment and didn’t imagine that she would stay there for the time being.
Just as she was about to enter the villa, a car pulled up and she recognized it was Matthew and stood still.
Matthew got out of the car and saw Dolores standing off to the side and coldly asked her, “Where did you go?” He went to the hospital, but was told that she had completed discharge proceedings. So where did he go for the rest of the day?
Dolores didn’t explain. She was exhausted from Jessica’s business. Dolores merely replied, “I had some to attend to.”
Matthew frowned, what kind of attitude was that? He approached briskly….
He was tense and looked furious, then Dolores seemed to see multiple images of him. Dolores became dizzy and fainted. Matthew was quick and managed to hold her waist as she collapsed.
Her waist was still slim and it was not noticeable that she was pregnant. Her soft body and close contact sent his heart racing with excitement. Matthew frowned as the sensation was subtle. It was inexplicable. They had only known each other a short time and it was rare to develop such strange feelings.
Before he could savor the emotions, two people came through the door. One was Abbott and the other Helen. Both were stunned to see Matthew hugging Dolores. Especially Helen if she hadn’t been in front of Matthew, she would have stomped her foot in rage. she was furious inside!
“Matthew…she…!”
Matthew carried Dolores and entered the villa. Abbott looked at Helen and said, “Mr. Nelson has married Miss Flores. Even if he doesn’t love her, they are husband and wife. How can he allow her to faint and collapse on the floor?”
Helen scoffed, “How could she faint when she seemed fine? Isn’t she intentionally seducing him?”
Before Abbott could respond, Helen continued, “Why did she faint if she’s not sick, isn’t that strange?”
She had reason to doubt.
Abbott trusted Helen more than Dolores, since he had known Helen longer and they were co-workers.
Although Dolores was an unfortunate young woman, she had a family. Helen, on the other hand, was lonely and had been with Matthew for a long time.
So, naturally, he sided with Helen.
Matthew carried Dolores into the bedroom and placed her on the bed. Just as he was getting up, Dolores suddenly grabbed him by the collar.noveldrama
