Unforgettable love

Chapter 9

Chapter 9:.

She couldn’t say, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have married Matthew, and they can’t be together because of me,” could she? Those words sounded so insincere.

Their mothers arranged the marriage, so was there really anything she could do about it?

Matthew looked at Dolores, his jaw unhinged, and took a firm step forward. An oppressive atmosphere permeated the air and Dolores involuntarily took a step back.

“You didn’t mean to disturb her?”

Helen grabbed his arm. “Matthew, don’t be angry. It was my fault. I shouldn’t have said all those words. After all, they’re newlyweds. I shouldn’t have come here. You should hurry off to bed, I’ll go home.”

“It’s not you who should go.” Matthew grabbed Helen’s wrist and went upstairs.

Helen’s heart burst with joy. Although Matthew had made it clear that he would be with her, he had never actively shown it to her. Matthew’s action left Helen completely elated. After all, Helen was not the one who had been with him that first night. She could only win his heart if she actually had sex with him.

Dolores didn’t look up, but turned and went to her room.

When Helen turned to look back, she saw Dolores’ slim, slender back about to enter her room. She suddenly reminded her of the woman from that night.

That night, Helen overcame the jealousy and hatred in her heart to find a virgin woman for Matthew. She was already at her tolerable limit for sharing Matthew.

She had paid little attention to the woman, and saw only her slender figure as she left. No wonder Dolores gave off a familiar feeling when Helen looked at her. That kind of feeling didn’t come out of nowhere.

The woman that night could have been Dolores, and every time that thought came into her head, her heart pounded with fear and panic. He couldn’t let Dolores stay with Matthew. He didn’t want to have to see the woman who gave him her virginity continuously. And he couldn’t let them be alone too long to keep Matthew from discovering the truth. After all, Dolores was a woman who was with him that night.

After entering the room, Helen shed her inhibitions and immediately wrapped her arms around Matthew’s slender waist, burying her head in his chest and saying tenderly, “Matthew, let me be your woman again.”

As she spoke, she looked up to kiss him, but Matthew hesitated. Despite seeing Helen’s initiative, he didn’t have the desire or drive that a normal man should have. Except for that night, he had never thought of making love to her.

Just as Helen’s lips were about to reach his, he turned his head away. Helen didn’t get to kiss him.

“It’s late now, let’s go to bed,” Matthew said, tugging at the shirt collar, which was far from tight.

He felt a little uneasy. He wasn’t sure why, but he was. Maybe it was because he didn’t have the drive you’d expect a man to have toward Helen, which made him feel abnormal.

Helen’s hands clenched into fists and her eyes glistened with tears.

“Matthew it’s because you don’t like me-”

“Don’t worry too much about it,” Matthew said, lowering his voice and putting his arm around her shoulder. “You can sleep here tonight.”

Helen was a woman. She understood all too well what it meant when a man couldn’t get turned on by her body.

She lay on the bed obediently, but her eyes grew red and puffy. Tears stung her eyes, but she refused to let them fall.

He wanted to talk about the injustice of it all, but he was patient and didn’t want to make things worse.

Seeing her reaction, Matthew’s heart fluttered. That night, she was stoic like that too. No matter what he did, she didn’t make a sound.

At the thought of that night, Matthew’s heart melted. He covered her with the blanket and sat on the edge of the bed.

“Don’t worry too much. If we get married, I’ll definitely make love to you.”

Helen nodded. She had been around Matthew long enough to know his personality well. Even if he didn’t love her, he was a slave to responsibility. And he would certainly be responsible for her.

Matthew took off his jacket and left the room. He went downstairs and put the jacket on the couch. He sat on the couch with his slender legs crossed over the coffee table. She rested her head on the couch and stifled a yawn.

First thing in the morning, after Dolores had finished washing and changing, Matthew was sitting at the dining room table reading economic news.

Helen knew him well, as she made him a pot of strong, hot, black coffee.

Coral had already finished preparing breakfast. Dolores reduced her sense of presence by not making any noise as she sat at the end of the table and distanced herself from them. She ate her oat flakes with her head down.

Coral served the fried eggs. Looking at Dolores, who now looked like a worthless coward, Coral furrowed her eyebrows. If Dolores was Matthew’s legal wife, why was she being so humble in front of a mistress?

Coral deliberately raised her voice. “Miss Flores, you should sit at the head of the table, next to the Young Master.”

“Huh?” Dolores looked up. Matthew put down the business paper in his hands as well while looking at Coral. Dolores and Matthew stared at each other, and both were stunned. When Dolores thought of the night before, when Matthew looked at her so coldly, a haze of icy fear came over her.

When Matthew was very young, his mother passed away, and it was Coral who took care of him.

He respected her greatly. Hence the reasoning for Coral to speak to him less formally.

For Dolores, the marriage between her and Matthew was just a deal in which they both got their respective advantages. Therefore, Dolores felt that she should not disturb his private life any more than necessary.

After finishing the porridge, she smiled, “I have finished eating, please take your time.”

From what had happened less than twelve hours earlier, Dolores could tell that Matthew cared a lot about Helen, so she had better not go overboard.

She hurried out as if a tremendous wave of beasts were chasing her.

Matthew looked at Dolores, who was fleeing, and narrowed his eyes slightly.

Matthew thought for a while and whispered, “Maybe she won’t feel comfortable while I’m here, in the future…”

Matthew put a glass of milk in front of Helen. “She’ll be gone in a month.” Helen lowered her eyes slightly. A month was too long for her.

When Dolores returned to her room, she swiped her phone and received a reply from the application she had submitted on the job search website. It said she had been invited for an interview. When Matthew and Helen left, Dolores left the house and took a cab to the interview location.

The WY Group tower was covered in clouds and looked like it belonged to another world.

Dolores stood in front of the tower and took a deep breath before entering.

Since she had not graduated from college, it was not easy for her to find a suitable job. Hence, she was so excited to have the opportunity to have an interview for the position.

In the HR waiting room, there were many people dressed smartly and with a resume in hand. They looked like they were fully prepared for their interview. In contrast, Dolores was wearing a white shirt and jeans. She looked and felt a bit out of place compared to the others. She didn’t look like a person who was interviewing for a job.

She ignored the strange looks that continually fell on her and stood quietly to the side, waiting.

It was almost an hour before Dolores was called.

Her experiences washing dishes and delivering newspapers could not be written off as relevant work experience. She didn’t have a degree, so there wasn’t much she could put on her resume.

The interviewer frowned at her blank work experience. “How do you know the language of country A?”

The question was understandable. After all, it wasn’t a popular language. The job ad had been posted for a long time, but there were no applicants.

Dolores was assailed by terrible memories and clenched her hands to push them away. “I already lived there. In order to communicate better with the people there, I learned the language and the words…”

This voice…

With the documents in hand, Helen, who was passing through the HR waiting room, heard the somewhat familiar voice. She looked up and saw Dolores. Her heart pounded violently.
