When Love Is a Lie (Whitney and Damian)

Chapter 49 You Deserve to Be Alone

"What? Not only does she want Rachel to drop the charges, but I also have to post an apology video?" Jenny exploded in Helena's office.

"Many guests attended that birthday banquet, and while the Jennings family might not be as prominent as the Howards, they still have a reputation to maintain. All she wants is a public statement clearing things up," Helena explained calmly while typing on her computer. "So, I have to admit that I took the necklace and framed her? How's that any different from being sued?" Jenny's eyes widened in panic.

As the Howard family's heiress, she was used to other socialites vying for her friendship. The thought of facing such public humiliation was unbearable.

Helena looked up from her screen. "Why didn't you think about the consequences before doing it?"

Jenny fell silent, but it was clear that she was still fuming. She was burning with resentment but knew she couldn't defend herself.

Suddenly, she pointed at Helena accusingly. "Why are you taking their side? You're defending outsiders against your own cousin. No wonder Gavin left you! You deserve to be alone!"

"Jenny!" Helena's expression turned fierce, her gaze sharp and fierce. "One more word, and you're out!"

Intimidated by Helena's glare, Jenny backed down. The mention of Gavin Tyson had stirred up emotions Helena had long tried to suppress.

After collecting herself, she continued, "Whitney has already thought this through for you. The video only needs to state that it was a misunderstanding and that Rachel's necklace was found elsewhere. Neither your nor Yvette's reputation will be affected." After leaving the office, Jenny immediately called Rachel, and the two met at a nearby café. As she listened to Jenny explain the situation, Rachel's hand tightened on the edge of her coat. A flicker of anger crossed her face.

"Rachel, we may have lost this round, but don't worry-we'll find another chance," Jenny said, trying to reassure her.

Rachel forced a smile. "It's fine. What matters most is that you're okay. We're family, after all." She added resignedly, "Maybe we should stop messing with Whitney. She's going to marry Damian, and Grandpa adores her. I'll just avoid her from now on." Jenny grabbed her hand. "Rachel, you're more of a Howard than Helena ever was. Don't worry-as long as I'm here, Whitney won't dare bully you! The two of us can definitely handle her!" Rachel's eyes welled up with tears as she squeezed Jenny's hand back.

When she returned to work after her leave, Whitney sat at her desk and turned on her computer to write her resignation letter. After thinking it through, she decided to quit Howard Group.noveldrama

Damian obviously did not love her, and with Rachel joining the company, the last thing she wanted was to be around two people she had no desire to see. Besides, she had only taken this secretary job for Damian, and she did not even enjoy the work. As Whitney quickly typed on her keyboard, her office phone suddenly rang. She picked up the call, answering flatly, "Yes, Mr. Howard."

"Come to my office," Damian said.

Whitney paused her typing and headed to his office. When she entered, Damian was on a call. Seeing her approach, he said into the phone, "Why don't you tell her yourself?" before extending the phone to Whitney.

Whitney was puzzled. "You want me to take it?"

Damian nodded, gesturing for her to listen.

Holding the phone to her ear, she said, "Hello?"

William's voice came through the line. "Ms. Spencer, it's me. I've obtained the medicine, and I'm flying back tomorrow. We can go to the hospital together the day after and start Madam Colin's treatment. She should wake up soon." Whitney was stunned, and she could hardly believe it. "Are you saying my mother can start the treatment the day after tomorrow?"

"Yes, I'll go straight to the hospital when I return. You and Mr. Howard can meet me there."

"Yes, of course. Thank you so much, Professor Morris. I really appreciate everything!"

As she ended the call, tears began streaming down her face. Damian handed her some tissues, saying gently, "Why are you crying? You should be happy that Madam Colin will wake up soon." Whitney nodded, taking the tissues to wipe her tears.

"I'll wait for you after work. We can go back to the villa together, then head to the hospital the day after tomorrow," Damian suggested.

Whitney looked up at him. "I need to go home and tell my dad about this. We can discuss my move later."

Damian's expression briefly darkened before he masked it. Then, he replied warmly, "Alright, whatever you want."

As Whitney left, Damian's smile disappeared.

Back at her desk, Whitney stared at the unfinished resignation letter for a long time before finally closing it.

Just then, her phone buzzed. It was Noel.
